Post and Sons of Legion Meetings are held together at 6:00 pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month,
January through November. There is not a meeting in December.
In March, April, May, and June, the Post and S.A.L. may hold meetings to be determined on the
second Tuesday of those months at 6:00 pm.

Meet the Commander
John Nemanich, Detachment Commander, 2026-2027
My eligibility for membership in the Sons of the American Legion has been established through my Father, John F. Nemanich, an honorably discharged World War II United States Army Veteran, who received the World War II Victory medal, also the Army of Occupation (Japan) medal and my Grandfather, John J. Nemanich, an honorably discharged World War I United States Army Wagoner Veteran.
During my time in the military, I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1978 -1982. I was assigned to the Marine Helicopter Squadron One, Presidential Unit where I was awarded “The Presidential Service Certificate and Medal #6904 for Honorable Service in the White House”.
As a dual member in good standing for the Sons of the American Legion, Detachment of Illinois for 14 years as a member of the Palatine Squadron 690 and the American Legion Department of Illinois for 7 years as a member of the Palatine Post 690 in Palatine.
My theme is “Climb on Board” helping our active military, our veterans, and their families. As we should know, the American Legion is the largest patriotic organization, as we advocate for Veterans’ rights and benefits, support youth programs and promote patriotism. It will be a real learning experience to work this year on our Legion programs like; Boys State, Girls State, Buddy Poppy, Buddy Checks, Oratorical Contest and of course, let us not forget working on Membership, the life of our organization.
I am looking forward to working with Department of Illinois, Commander Celeste Latham, and President Linda Iberg on our various programs and ideas.
