DUTIES OF AMERICAN LEGION THB 187 OFFICERS

                                                       DUTIES OF COMMANDER

The Commander shall preside at all meeting of the Post and the Executive Committee, but shall have no vote on issues except to break a tie vote. He shall have general supervision of the Post, of its activities, and of its properties. He shall represent the Post at all public functions at which Post representation is requested. He shall assist the Nomination Committee in its nominations for a Second Junior Vice Commander for the ensuing year. He shall be a delegate to the DuPage County Executive Council and to the annual State Convention. He shall appoint all committees except members of the Nominating Committee. At the installation meeting, he shall present a written report on all the major activities of the Post during his administration and shall make recommendation for the ensuing year.

DUTIES OF SENIOR VICE COMMANDER

The Senior Vice Commander shall assume and discharge all the responsibilities and duties of the Office of Commander in the absence or disability of the Commander, or when he has been assigned to do so by the Commander. He shall at all times assist the Commander in the discharge of the duties of his office and shall represent the Commander on all standing committees. He shall be directly responsible for the supervision of Membership, Entertainment, and Publicity Committees and direct their activities through their respective appointed chairpersons.

DUTIES OF FIRST JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER

The First Junior Vice Commander shall assist the Commander in the performance of his duties and shall assume and discharge all the responsibilities and duties of the Office of Commander in the absence of disability of both the Commander and the Senior Vice Commander. He shall represent the Commander and be responsible for the functioning of all special committees as designated by the Commander or Executive Committee. He shall be directly responsible for the supervision of the Americanism, and Junior Legion Baseball Committees and shall direct their activities through their respectively appointed chairmen. The First Junior Vice Commander shall be directly responsible for cooperating with the American Legion Auxiliary for the Post’s portion of the annual Poppy Day sales.

DUTIES OF SECOND JUNIOR VICE COMMANDER

The Second Junior Vice Commander shall assist the Commander in the performance of his duties and shall assume and discharge all the responsibilities and duties of the Office of Commander and the first Junior Vice Commander. He shall represent the Commander and be responsible for the functioning of all special committees as designated by the Commander or Executive Committee. He shall be directly responsible for the Community Service Program and Memorial Day Parade (in conjunction with the V.F.W.) Committees and shall direct their activities through their respective appointed chairmen.
